The Bubble Eye has an egg-shaped body with a fluid-filled sac under each eye. When the fish is young, the bubbles are small, but they enlarge later as they grow. The bubbles are in fact folds of skin enclosing a pale yellow body fluid. The skin is so thin that the blood capillaries are clearly visible. The Bubble Eye with large bubbles which are clumsy in feeding tend to swim near the bottom of an aquarium. The Bubble Eye should be raised in clean water. When the quality of water deteriorates, the bubbles may turn opaque and become blood-stained. Once the bubbles have become opaque, it is difficult for them to become clear again. |
